Captain Hunt is a U.S. Cavalry officer who takes pride on his friendly relations with the Indians. He has engineered a peace treaty between President Abraham Lincoln and tribal Chief Acona, but when Lincoln is assassinated in Washington, relations with the Indians deteriorate, mostly due to a corrupt Colonel and an ambitious Judge. Some Indians are brutally killed, reprisals follow and the war drums are soon beating. In the hopes of averting an all-out war, Hunt, with a small band of men, sets out to intercept Acona. They are joined by a saloon singer, Cherry, after she is rescued from a stagecoach attack.
